city and guildsCourse Structure

The DTLLS course at Future Training College is an 18-month programme. It comprises of face-to-face training days, optional assignment workshops, one to one tutorials, workplace assessment, individual research, distance learning and the completion of 8 assignments.

During the first 15 months you will attend the training days. These are highly interactive, face-to-face sessions. The objective behind these sessions is to build around key themes that address the course content, prompt reflective practice and provide an opportunity to share good practice with others.

In addition to the training days there are optional workshops to support assignments. Individual tutorial support and distance learning is also embedded on the programme.

Assessment

The course is assessed by 8 unit assignments, an ongoing reflective journal and a teaching practice portfolio. You will have to show evidence of 150 hours of teaching and will be observed 8 times. Assignments must be submitted within the last 3 months of the course.

Pre-Requisites

This course builds on the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS / 7303). In order to join the course, you must have a PTLLS or its equivalent qualification. You may also be on a PTLLS course concurrently.

Why do the DTLLS?

DTLLS is the qualification required for teachers/tutors and assessors who work in the lifelong learning sector in a 'full teaching' role, and leads to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS). On achievement of the DTLLS qualification, Professional Formation can be applied for via IfL which grants Licensed Practitioner Status.
